Indian Airlines to set up MRO at Hyderabad airport

GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) has signed a lease agreement with Indian Airlines (IA) for setting up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, near here.

As per the agreement, IA will set up the facility by transferring its existing operations at the Begumpet airport in the city. The MRO will commence operations around the time the new airport starts operations in the first quarter of 2008.GHIAL will invest and build connecting taxiway, apron and engine run-up bay as common facilities for the MRO, the company stated in a press release here on Thursday. The facility at Begumpet airport handles the initial maintenance checks on IA’s Airbus-320 aircraft. IA will render similar service to its aircraft as well as those belonging to Air-India at the new facility. Indian Airlines has similar facilities at Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata airports.
