| Engineering and construction giant Larsen and Toubro Ltd on Wednesday said it has bagged a Rs 495 crore EPC (engineer-procure-construct) contract for the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport project.
L and T has signed with Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL) for this contract and the project at Shamshabad is expected to be completed in 30 months, a statement said.
The company will construct the runway, taxiway and aprons to accommodate wide body planes, including new generation aircraft such as A380. It will also build the cargo terminal building, ground handling workshops and other buildings.
The contract covers development of airfield ground lighting system and fire station, installation of the aviation hydrant system and security perimeter.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, which is expected to be open to traffic by 2008, is promoted by HIAL, a public and private partnership initiative by GMR Group with Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad, Andhra Pradesh government and Airports Authority of India.
