L&T bags Rs 495 cr. contract of Hyderabad airport

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged the contract for airside and landside (ALS) works of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport coming up at Shamshabad on the city outskirts.

The Hyderabad International Airport Limited has announced the award of the contract worth Rs. 495 crore on Wednesday.

The contract for the passenger terminal building estimated to cost Rs. 615 crore has been awarded to China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (CSCEHK).

The scope of work awarded to the L&T includes construction of runway, taxiway and aprons to accommodate the generation aircraft like A380; development of aviation hydrant system, roads, drainage system, security fence and gates; setting up of ground lighting system, fire station and equipment; and construction of the cargo terminal building, ground handling workshops and other miscellaneous buildings. The CSCEHK, on its part would take up construction of fully operational terminal building area of over one lakh sq. m. with features including building structure, civil and finishing works, electrical and mechanical installations, lifts and escalators, passenger boarding bridges, baggage handling system, information technology and security systems and furniture, signage and associated works.

The firm would also take up construction of the ATC tower with adjacent technical building.

The selection was made by following a competitive tender process for EPC tenders. The period of the contract would be 30 months of which 27 months would be for construction while the remaining three months would be for airport operational trials and certification.
