THE FIRST YEAR PROGRESS:

One year is not a long duration in project development and least of all in projects development sector, where mega infrastructure projects usually takes years to complete.

For GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited, (formerly Hyderabad International Airport Limited) which is developing a new international airport in Shamshabad, it has been an eventful year and has made a substantial progress in a short span of one year.

Ever since the Foundation Stone was laid exactly on this day last year by Smt.Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson - National Advisory Council, the company has achieved several milestones which are listed below,

Achievement of Financial Closure – 22nd Aug, 2005
Signing of EPC contracts – 11th Aug, 2005
Notice to Proceed to EPC Contractors – 1st Sept, 2005
Commencement of Excavations for the PTB - 6th Oct, 2005
Concrete Pour – 10th October, 2005
Commencement of Runway Works - 10th Dec, 2005
Commencement of Air Traffic Control Works - 2nd Feb, 2006
Completion of PTB foundations – 27th Feb, 2006
Elevated Slab Pour -3rd Mar, 2006
Completion of Site Preparation works – March 16th, 2006
As is evident from the above, the project work has been progressing very rapidly, once the two key milestones: Financial Closure and Notice to Proceed to EPT Contractors, were crossed subsequent to the laying of Foundation Stone in last March.

So far, about 11,771,864 cubic metres area has been cut, of which 80,85,840 cubic meters area filled to-date. As far as the Passenger Terminal Building is concerned, which includes the ATC tower, close to 15 per cent work has been completed in the last of five months or so.

Similarly, about 8 per cent work has been completed on the Airside and Landside work, which includes the Runway, in the last three months.

Way forward

During the year 2006-07, the following will be completed,

Shell of Passenger Terminal Building and commencement of internal fittings,
Completion of Air Traffic Control Tower
Completion of majority of the Runway Work
Finalisation of Cargo Contracts, Maintenance & Repair Overhaul, Fuel Farm and other Retail Concessionaires.
