| THE GMR Vasavi group consortium has been selected as the preferred bidder for the proposed international airport at Shamshabad on the outskirts of the city.
The GMR Vasavi and Malaysian Airport Holding (MAHB) consortia pipped the Zurich Real Estate Consultants and L&T combine, the other main contender for the greenfield project.
The decision taken by the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today was based on the evaluation report submitted by Tata Economic Consultancy Services (TECS), according to an official release.
The Cabinet has decided to intimate GMR-MAHB consortia to furnish performance security and invite them for discussions. There were nine bidders originally for the project, which was narrowed down to two after a detailed feasibility report by TECS.
The TECS had evaluated the bids submitted by two consortia -- the GMR Vasavi group led and the Zurich Airport led. While GMR consortium was awarded 80 marks, the Zurich Airport team got 72 marks, the release said.
