| In line with its commitment to providing full services to air passengers and employees in the new international airport in Shamshabad, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has selected Apollo Hospitals for setting up a medical centre inside the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB).
The Apollo Hospitals has been selected preferred bidder from among several hospitals through a highly transparent and competitive bidding process. Apollo Hospital's status as the first hospital which obtained the international Accredition in A.P. has given them a winning edge over others.
As per the agreement, Apollo Hospitals will set up a medical centre spread over an area of over 300 sq meters in Level B of the PTB and first aid kiosks in the passenger restricted areas. It will provide permanent staffing and dedicated paramedics in this centre. It will be a 17-bedded medical centre, having facilities such as Ultrasound/ECG and 24 hr emergency dental services.
This medical centre is a fully developed facility. This has got a unique concept of being integrated and well networked with the main hospital in the city, which will cater in case of any major criticality.
The Apollo Medical Centre will serve as an emergency treatment centre for passengers who may develop medical complications while on travel or in the airport premises. It will also serve as important partner in disaster management during crisis periods such as explosion, fire, earthquake, plane crash etc. within the airport premises.
In addition to the passengers, the medical centre will provide medicare to the needy airlines and airport staff working in the airport, and will also act as a centre for conducting pre-flight medical tests for pilots and flight crew.
The agreement also envisages Apollo Medical Centre to own and operate a minimum of four Advanced Life Saving Ambulances - two stationed at the Airside and two others on the Landside, besides maintaining, operating and providing Advanced Life Saving equipment for Ambulances of GHIAL.
Commenting on this new development, Mr. T Srinagesh, COO, GHIAL, said: "We are fully aware of the importance of providing emergency medicare to the passengers as well as the basic medical care for employees working in the airport. We have, therefore, tied up with Apollo Hospitals for setting up the Medical Centre in our PTB. We are sure it will live up to our expectations in making the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport a truly customer-friendly airport."
About GHIAL:
GMR-HIAL is a joint venture company promoted by GMR Infrastructure (63 pc); Malaysian Airports Holding Berhad (11 pc), Airports Authority of India (13 pc) and Government of Andhra Pradesh (13 pc), which has been mandated to develop a world-class international airport in about 5,500 acres in Shamshabad.
The airport is accustomed to handle 12 million passengers per annum. The total project cost is Rs. 2478 crores.
The new project is set to establish Hyderabad prominently in the global aviation map and thereby contribute to the prosperity and development of the region.
