GHIAL partner Malaysia Airport wins World's Best Airport Award for Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Malaysia Airports, a partner in GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) and Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) has won the World's Best Airport Award in the 15-25 million passengers per annum category by the Airport Council International's Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards 2006. This award was given for Malaysia 's flagship airport, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is developing a world-class international airport at Shamshabad, Hyderabad and DIAL is the joint venture company led by GMR Group formed to modernize and restructure the Indira Gandhi International Airport , Delhi .

San Diego Airport in the US and Zurich Airport in Switzerland were placed second and third in the category at the award presentation ceremony, which was held in Dubai in conjunction with the two-day Airport Council International (ACI), Airport Business and Trinity Forum. KLIA also maintained its third place in both the Best Airport Worldwide and Best Airport in Asia/Pacific categories, behind Incheon Airport , Korea , and Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport while Singapore 's Changi Airport was fourth.

ASQ is a survey organized by the ACI, in which 81 airports worldwide participated in the ASQ Survey 2006. The survey was conducted by means of benchmarking airports performance on service quality, facilities and passengers feedbacks.ASQ (Airport Service Quality) ratings accord substantial weightage to service quality, cleanliness and hygiene.

Hyderabad is awaiting to witness a new passenger terminal that offers international experience with a local flavour with its user-friendly modular design. An airport village with shopping arcade for meeters and greeters, domestic and international flights in the same terminal for easy transit, hotel facilities is also facilities being offered for added comfort.

Likewise, the Master Plan for the modernization of IGI Airport submitted DIAL envisages enhancing capacity to handle 37 million passengers. The construction of a new integrated passenger terminal and third runway is already underway. The new terminal will cater to the both domestic and international traffic and will be ready by 2010.

DIAL, is equipping its staff with skills and training to achieve that goal. Executives from departments have been sent on study tours to various international airports such as those in Singapore , Malaysia , Germany and the US to understand needs and demands of passengers. Housekeeping staff have been specially trained by a leading hospitality chain of the country. Regular training programmes are also being run for employees in language and presentation skills, computer training amongst others.

About GHIAL:

GMR-HIAL is a joint venture company promoted by GMR Infrastructure (63 pc); Malaysian Airports Holding Berhad (11 pc), Airports Authority of India (13 pc) and Government of Andhra Pradesh (13 pc), which has been mandated to develop a world-class international airport in about 5,500 acres in Shamshabad.

GHIAL has awarded the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and Air Traffic Control (ATC) works to China State Construction Engineering ( Hong Kong ) Limited (CSCEHK) for Rs. 615 crore. The GHIAL has also given airside and runway works to L&T at a cost of Rs. 495 crore.

It has recently awarded In-flight Catering to two renowned companies named LSG Sky Chef and Sky Gourmet. Fuel farm Operations Contract has been awarded to RIL. Business Hotel in the airport has been awarded to Accor Group of Hotels for operation.

About DIAL:

Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) is a joint venture company; comprising the GMR Group, Airports Authority of India, Fraport, Malaysian Airport and India Development Fund. DIAL is working towards the modernization and restructuring of the Delhi Airport . The project being developed by DIAL under Public Private Partnership has been given the mandate to finance, design, build, operate and maintain the Delhi Airport for 30 years with an option to extend it by another 30 years.
