New Hyderabad Airport awards In-flight Catering Contracts

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), which is developing a world-class international airport at Shamshabad, Hyderabad - has entered into in-flight catering concessions with LSG Sky Chef and Sky Gourmet.

The contracts are awarded for setting up world-class in-flight catering units in the upcoming international airport.

The in-flight catering concessions will be extensively involved in financing, constructing, operating and maintaining in-flight kitchen facilities for provision of in-flight kitchen services at GHIAL.

Both the in-flight catering units will cater to 7,500 meals each per day capacity in the initial phase.

LSG Sky Chef is a 100% subsidiary of Lufthansa. It is the world's largest provider of airline catering and in-flight solution and caters 270 airlines from 190 customer service centers in 49 countries. It produces around 369 million airline meals per year. In India it is currently operating in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Sky Gourmet Catering Pvt. Ltd. operates under the trade name of "skygourmet" and is one of the leading airline catering companies in India with operations spread across Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. It has partnered with leading carriers such as Jet Airways in Mumbai and Kingfisher Airlines across the country, Malaysian Airlines etc. to give air travelers highest standards of Inflight Cuisine. It is now set to expand its network to other metro airports in India

Speaking on the occasion, T Srinagesh, Chief Operating Officer of GHIAL, said: "We are very happy to have collaborated with internationally reputed names like LSG Sky Chef and Skygourmet. Quality being our priority, we are proud and confident that we have made the right choice. Having two of them at the Airport gives a choice to Airlines as well"

About GHIAL

GMR-HIAL is a joint venture company promoted by GMR Infrastructure (63 pc); Malaysian Airports Holding Berhad (11 pc), Airports Authority of India (13 pc) and Government of Andhra Pradesh (13 pc), which has been mandated to develop a world-class international airport in about 5,500 acres in Shamshabad. The airport is estimated to cost Rs 1,760 crore in the first-phase, which is expected to become operational by the first quarter of 2008.

GHIAL has awarded the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and Air Traffic Control (ATC) works to China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (CSCEHK) for Rs 615 crore. The GHIAL has also given airside and runway works to L&T at a cost of Rs 495 crore.

The work on these two important components of the airport is progressing at a very brisk pace as per schedule.
